Republican Mike Rogers launched new attacks against Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race as polls narrow ahead of the November election.
Former Representative Mike Rogers launched fresh campaign attacks against Democratic opponent Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race. The Republican candidate is seeking a lead before the November election as poll margins narrow.
Rogers has trailed El-Sayed in most polls since the general election contest started last month. The gap narrowed to within the margin of error in a few surveys. More voters trust El-Sayed on the economy, according to polling data.
Rogers targeted his opponent on social media on Saturday.
“.@AbdulElSayed is more worried about Gaza than your gas prices,” Rogers said. “We need a Senator focused on Michigan. He’s running to be the Senator for Palestine.”
The post referenced comments El-Sayed made regarding Israel’s offensive in Gaza during an interview with The New York Times. El-Sayed has mostly focused on local issues while traveling along the campaign trail in Michigan.
El-Sayed issued a response on social media directly addressing the post.
“You want to send our tax dollars to support apartheid in the West Bank. I want to keep our tax dollars in MICHIGAN to rebuild schools on the West Side,” El-Sayed wrote. “I’M the one running to serve Michigan.”
