IKEA opens first Oklahoma furniture store in Tulsa Hills

IKEA is opening its first Oklahoma location at Tulsa Hills on October 23, bringing a 51,000-square-foot furniture store to shoppers across the region.

IKEA is launching its first Oklahoma location at Tulsa Hills to provide affordable home furnishings and decor. The site gives shoppers across the state local access to products without traveling to other states. The retailer built the 51,000-square-foot facility at the Tulsa Hills Shopping Center at 7309 South Olympia Avenue.

Doors open to shoppers on Friday, October 23, at 10 a.m. Opening festivities begin earlier at 8 a.m. The location will operate daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The space features furnished room displays for kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms and bathrooms. More than 3,000 products will be available for immediate takeaway. These items include home accessories and smaller furniture pieces.

Local high school students Olivia Wilburn and Bella Damon said the site provides new options for Tulsa. “I am really excited to check it out and see what’s all there,” Wilburn said.

Wilburn said the store could help her find items for her future college dorm room. Damon said the selection reflects continued local growth.

“It’s really amazing to live in such a beautiful city where we have so many opportunities just to have purchasing options,” Damon said.

Lifelong resident Michelle Ridenhour said she has never visited an IKEA. She said the Tulsa Hills area changed through suburban development and added shopping.

IKEA Market Manager Ben Sandoval said the business selected the city to make products accessible. Sandoval said regional shoppers previously traveled to locations in other states.

Sandoval said the business hired more than 60 local workers. Additional staff from across the country helped prepare the site.

The retailer is also donating $10,000 to Family & Children’s Services. The Tulsa nonprofit provides mental health and recovery services while supporting children and families.

Sandoval said the firm seeks community partnerships during store launches. The site fits a broader plan pairing physical stores with digital ordering.

Retail openings commonly bring commercial adjustments to surrounding suburban corridors. Cities typically manage increased traffic flow through planned shopping center access points.

Customers can use pickup, delivery and online ordering services through the retail network.
