Greater Union Baptist Church hosts Unity in the Community in Tulsa

Pastor Vanzelen Brown and Greater Union Baptist Church hosted the second annual Unity in the Community event in Tulsa to bridge gaps across the area.

Pastor Vanzelen Brown helped gather local residents in Tulsa on Saturday for a fellowship event. The gathering worked to bridge gaps and build relationships across the local area. It marked the second annual gathering organized by the congregation.

The event included food, prayer, and plenty of music. Community members also judged an on-site car show.

“Bringing churches and faith leaders together to celebrate our unity and oneness in Christ and bringing our members together and breaking down racial and political and religious walls and trying to bring people together through mutual respect and love,” Brown said.

Organizers launched the project to connect diverse groups across the Tulsa community. This year featured activities planned for attendees of all ages.

Several local organizations helped make the gathering possible:

  • American Red Cross
  • Harvard Christian Church
  • American Bank and Trust
  • Northside Neighbors
  • several other community partners

Neighborhood events of this type assemble civic groups and religious bodies. Leaders organize these functions to build fellowship through shared activities. Tulsa partners often coordinate logistics and volunteers together.

The church plans to continue holding the outreach gathering each year.
