Champions of Health Gala honors community advocates in Tulsa

The 23rd annual Champions of Health Gala in Tulsa honored healthcare leaders and featured keynote speaker Ashley Judd to benefit mobile medical care.

Community leaders celebrated statewide medical and wellness efforts Tuesday night during an event in Tulsa. The gathering recognized groups that expand clinical care, mental health services and food access.

The 23rd annual Champions of Health Gala also honored groups that work to strengthen local communities. A local high school student received recognition for her outreach and volunteer work.

Actress, author, and humanitarian Ashley Judd served as the keynote speaker. Organizers said the event highlights positive health initiatives happening across Oklahoma.

“We don’t often talk about the good things that are happening related to health in Oklahoma,” said Brooke Townsend, Senior Director of Community Relations for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma.

“This is our opportunity to shine a light on things that are positive, and it can happen across communities throughout the state.”

Proceeds from the Tuesday event supported the Oklahoma Caring Foundation. The foundation operates nine mobile health units across the state.

Mobile health programs often bring preventive care and basic clinical services directly to underserved areas. These traveling units help residents receive medical attention closer to home.

The annual gathering continues to support healthcare outreach programs across Tulsa and neighboring regions.
