American Waste Control sues Bank of Oklahoma in Tulsa wire fraud

In a Tulsa lawsuit, American Waste Control is suing Bank of Oklahoma after scammers stole over $1.8 million through unauthorized wire transfers.

American Waste Control has sued Bank of Oklahoma in Tulsa after scammers stole nearly $2 million from its account. The company filed the lawsuit to recover remaining funds lost to fraudulent wire transfers. The civil complaint claims the financial institution failed to stop the unauthorized activity.

The incident began on Nov. 20, 2025. American Waste said a caller claimed to work in BOKF fraud and security. The caller reported suspicious activity on the firm’s operating account. The person asked the business to confirm pending wire transfers.

The caller was an imposter, according to the lawsuit. Later that day, BOK processed 18 wire transfers totaling just over $1 million. The suit says the fraudster then called BOK while impersonating an American Waste employee to approve those wires.

The unauthorized transactions continued. The next day, BOK processed 16 more wire transfers totaling $773,300.

The losses mounted rapidly within a single business day.

“In less than 24 hours, and as a result of the unauthorized wire transfers identified above, the American Waste Operating Account at BOKF had been depleted by $1,841,599,” the lawsuit stated.

A legitimate bank representative eventually contacted the company. The caller told them: “I think you guys were hacked. Let me call you back. I’m going to try and stop all these wires from going out and we’re going to lock down everything, okay?”

American Waste has recovered $555,597 of the stolen funds to date. The lawsuit claims BOK “failed to take commercially reasonable steps to stop the fraudulent activity.” The case is titled American Waste Control V. BOKF.

Commercial wire disputes often center on security procedures used to verify transactions. Victims can seek civil damages when financial institutions fail to follow agreed protocols. Banks and corporate clients must then present their account records in court.

American Waste declined to comment on the pending Tulsa lawsuit. BOKF has not yet sent in a reply.
