RSU and USAO partner for accelerated cybersecurity degree in Claremore
In Claremore, RSU and USAO partnered on an accelerated cybersecurity program that lets students earn bachelor's and master's degrees in under five years.
Two Oklahoma universities formed a new educational pathway for computer science students in Claremore. The agreement lets undergraduates complete graduate courses to prepare for professional cybersecurity positions more rapidly.
Rogers State University and the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma created the track. Undergraduates at USAO can finish up to 12 graduate credit hours at RSU.
Students take these courses during their junior and senior years. The credits apply directly toward a USAO bachelor’s degree. They also count toward an RSU Master of Science in Cybersecurity Policy, Governance, and Training.
“We are incredibly pleased to be partnering with Rogers State University to bring an accelerated program that includes building both a deep base of knowledge coupled with hands-on skill development from faculty at two institutions to our computer science students whose career goals are focused on cybersecurity,” shared Dr. Rachel Jones, the dean of USAO’s School of Science and Kinesiology. “This program allows us to continue serving our students in their academic and career goals, while also meeting increased pressure from our legislature to prepare individuals for the workforce more quickly.”
USAO computer science students need a 3.0 GPA or higher. Qualified individuals receive conditional acceptance into the graduate school. Participants can earn both degrees in under five years.
Accelerated degree pathways combine undergraduate and graduate curricula to shorten total study time. Enrolled students finish advanced coursework at the Claremore campus while completing their initial degrees.
The program saves students time and money, according to RSU. Officials stated graduates enter the workforce with skills needed for career success.
