Oklahoma Heart Institute earns top national rating for Tulsa program
Oklahoma Heart Institute in Tulsa received a top three-star rating for its TAVR program, ranking among the best valve replacement sites in the nation.
Oklahoma Heart Institute in Tulsa received a top three-star rating for its transcatheter aortic valve replacement program. The score places the local medical center among the highest-performing heart care sites across the country.
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons and American College of Cardiology Transcatheter Valve Therapy National Registry gave the score. It reflects an analysis of patient outcomes and program volume.
About 800 valve replacement programs operate nationwide. Oklahoma Heart Institute said only five to eight percent of those sites secure three stars.
The Tulsa location is the only facility in Oklahoma with this specific rating. Dr. Kamran Muhammad serves as the director of the Structural Heart Program at the institute.
“This 3-Star Rating reflects the exceptional care our team provides every day and confirms that patients have access to one of the nation’s highest-performing TAVR programs right here in Tulsa,” Muhammad said. “The most important measure of our success is the outcome for each patient who entrusts us with their care.”
Muhammad performed the first catheter valve procedure in Tulsa in 2012. He stated team collaboration produces results that rank among the best nationally.
The procedure serves as a substitute for open heart surgery in specific clinical situations. Doctors guide a catheter through blood vessels to replace a diseased aortic valve.
The method provides a minimally invasive treatment option for patients. U.S. News & World Report ranked the institute first in Oklahoma in its 2026-2027 Best Hospitals edition. That publication placed the Tulsa center 19th across the nation.
Transcatheter valve replacements allow clinicians to repair damaged hearts without opening the chest cavity. Medical registries track clinical results to evaluate hospital safety standards.
The institute operates as part of the Hillcrest HealthCare System in Tulsa.
