Tulsa honors local medical assistants for National Medical Assistant Week

Tulsa city officials honored local healthcare workers at Community Care College with a proclamation celebrating National Medical Assistant Week.

Dr. Jabraan Pasha recognized local healthcare workers Thursday at Community Care College in Tulsa. The city proclamation honored their key contributions to clinics and hospitals during National Medical Assistant Week.

Pasha serves as the Chief Health Officer at the Tulsa Mayor’s Office. He called these workers the backbone of the entire healthcare system.

“I can’t think of a more essential role,” stated Dr. Pasha. “Medical assistants are the backbone of hospitals. They’re the backbone of clinics. They’re oftentimes the first people that our patients see offer them support, care and really set the tone for what that visit may be like.”

A nationwide shortage of medical assistants currently impacts the field, according to Pasha. He said Tulsa serves as a vital education pipeline.

Medical assistants support doctors and nurses by handling administrative tasks and direct patient care. Training programs prepare students to work in clinics across the region.

Community Care College hosted the official event in Tulsa. Staff members celebrated the formal proclamation.
