Bixby hosts first Wellness Walk to promote mental health awareness
Darcy Linam launched Bixby's first Wellness Walk at Charley Young Park to support mental health awareness and bring the community together.
Darcy Linam launched a community walk in Bixby on Saturday to support mental health awareness. The gathering aimed to bring people together and break stigmas. It was the first event of its kind in the city.
The event took place at Charley Young park. It offered community resources alongside family-friendly activities. Attendees also found opportunities to connect with others.
Organizers said events like this matter. They said a small act of kindness can help someone who struggles.
Linam founded the walk. She shared her message with the crowd.
“I hope that everyone understands that checking on someone and asking if they’re okay can make a bigger difference than we realize,” Linam said. “One kind word, one small conversation, just knowing that someone cares can make a bigger difference than we realize, and it really could be the reason someone chooses to stay.”
Charley Young park serves as an outdoor public gathering space in downtown Bixby. Community parks often provide open areas for local social causes and wellness gatherings.
Organizers want the event to continue. They hope to bring the gathering back to Bixby next year.
