Boone Pickens Stadium to host Bedlam on Ice in Stillwater

Oklahoma State will host Oklahoma for an outdoor hockey game in Stillwater on January 30, 2027. The matchup marks the first ice hockey contest ever played inside the football venue. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.

“Playing hockey in Boone Pickens Stadium is something you don’t get to do twice,” OSU Hockey captain Kaden Nelson said. “There’s going to be a lot of noise that night.”

The rivals met at the BOK Center in February with over 15,000 tickets sold. Oklahoma State won 13-2. The team later reached the American Collegiate Hockey Association Men’s Division 2 National Championship game.

“This is a historic event that reflects the remarkable growth of Cowboy Hockey in recent years,” OSU Athletic Director Chad Weiberg said. “Our students, alumni, fans, community and state will be able to see on full display the bold innovation of OSU Hockey and watch Bedlam in Boone Pickens Stadium.”

College hockey games in football stadiums date back to 2001, according to Oklahoma State. Michigan played Michigan State before 104,713 fans at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor in 2010. Michigan State also met Penn State before 74,575 fans at Beaver Stadium in State College in 2026.

Crews will construct the Stillwater ice rink running east to west across the football field. The public can skate on the surface in the days leading up to the game. Oklahoma State said more details will come closer to the event.

“As the great T. Boone Pickens once said, ‘I have always believed that it’s important to show a new look periodically. Predictability can lead to failure,’ so all I can say is, get ready and buckle up,” said President and CEO of Oklahoma State Hockey Colleen Harvey.

The venue previously hosted non-athletic events. The sold out Boys from Oklahoma concert series took place there in 2025 with Cross Canadian Ragweed and Turnpike Troubadours. The bands returned alongside Wyatt Flores in 2026.

Outdoor collegiate hockey games take place across the country in winter months. Campus athletic departments coordinate rink construction on existing turf surfaces. These special events allow club hockey programs to compete before large stadium crowds.
