Gregory D. Smith was arrested in Wagoner County following an undercover online operation, deputies said. The Georgia man now faces two felony charges and remains held on bond. The Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office conducted the operation on September 15 and 16.
Deputies worked with the nonprofit Safe from Online Sex Abuse. The organization helps law enforcement investigate people suspected of online child sex abuse and exploitation.
Investigators said Smith lives in Warner Robins, Georgia. He allegedly contacted a decoy posing as a 14-year-old girl. Confidential informants for the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office deployed the decoy profile.
Smith used Snapchat and Kik to message the decoy, an informant said. The messages turned sexual quickly. Smith was working a construction job in Oklahoma City.
Deputies said he agreed to meet the decoy in person. He drove from Oklahoma City to Wagoner County. Investigators located Smith upon his arrival and arrested him. He surrendered without incident.
Deputies transported Smith to the Wagoner County Detention Center. He was booked on suspicion of facilitating sexual conduct with a minor. He was also booked for lewd or indecent proposals or acts to a child.
County detention centers hold individuals awaiting initial court appearances or formal charging documents. Judges set bail amounts during arraignment proceedings to ensure future court appearances.
A judge set his bond at $100,000. He remained jailed in Wagoner County.
